The DVD rental business can rely on one or multiple suppliers for supplying the DVDs and Blu-rays.

Often a trend of faulty of pieces emerges from a particular supplier where the pieces do not give the optimal number of runs before being rendered useless by the users as the disc quality deteriorates. While you suspect the problem in certain pieces or a trend, you do not have enough evidence to nail your supplier for the same.

For this end, the DVD rental software tracks the number of runs that each piece has before it is rendered faulty or damaged. This pieces can then be traced back to the supplier. Based on this cumulative information, a report is generated as to which suppliers tend to provide pieces that are not so viable.
